This module helped me better understand the educational value of games and simulations in online learning. I learned that when they are aligned with learning objectives, games and simulations can increase engagement, encourage collaboration, provide individualized learning experiences, and allow students to apply knowledge in realistic situations. I also learned that effective implementation requires thoughtful instructional design and clear connections between learning objectives, activities, and assessment.
As an online instructor, I intend to apply these concepts by exploring ways to incorporate more interactive and scenario-based learning opportunities into my courses. I am particularly interested in using simulations, case studies, and gamified activities that encourage critical thinking and real-world application of concepts. These strategies can help students become more active participants in their learning while increasing motivation, engagement, and retention of course content.
