Through this module, I learned that effective online communication is about much more than simply sharing information—it is about intentionally building relationships that support student engagement, persistence, and success. I gained a deeper understanding of relational writing practices, social presence, and the importance of creating meaningful connections with students through written communication. The module reinforced that students are more likely to remain engaged when they feel valued, supported, and connected to their instructors and the institution.
As an Esthetics Instructor, I intend to apply these lessons by being more intentional in my written communication with students. I plan to incorporate more personalized outreach, provide feedback that is both supportive and growth-oriented, and create opportunities for meaningful dialogue rather than one-way communication. I also want to be more proactive in recognizing student achievements and checking in with students who may be struggling academically or personally.
Most importantly, this module reminded me that strong relationships are at the heart of student success. Whether students are learning in person, online, or in a hybrid environment, I want my communication to foster trust, belonging, and encouragement. By applying these relational writing practices, I hope to strengthen student engagement, improve retention, and help students feel confident and supported as they work toward their professional goals in the esthetics industry.
