I learned that assessments don't have to be time consuming, a short quiz can be a good check-in to let you know how well, or not, the students understand what you have been teaching. It is important to adjust your teaching as needed, if assessments show lower comprehension. Also that practicum supervisors are in a great position to observe skills in action, and give feedback to both the students and the instructor as to what is going well and what improvements may be needed. As a supervisor, I plan to continue to give actionable feedback to students in the clinic, as well as the the relevant instructors if needed. As a TA, I plan to think of questions that may be useful for the teacher to add to a short quiz.
