current student information

Maintaining current student information is critical to knowing where students are, so we can keep in contact with them

Michele,

There are so many great reasons to maintain current student information, both for the students themselves and for references who are likely to know their whereabouts if the student demographic information becomes invalid. Good contact information can help you locate students who stop attending class without notice so the school can help get them back on track. Good contacts can help the school assist students with valuable placement information. And certainly good contact information is very valuable to a school's debt management efforts with its students as they approach and enter repayment.

i like the idea of having students put this information on their tests. i have a hard time contacting students because their cell phones change so frequently. this would give me up to the minute good phone numbers. david forrester

David,

It's a really good plan to collect updated contact information on documents such as tests--they are one of the things students are sure to participate in frequently. You might even convince some of your instructors to offer a bonus point for students who include this information on their exams!

Doing the Admissions phase our Institute conducts an extensive check of the students critial information seeking contact name and phone numbers of a varity of support personnel. It's not just parents, its neighbors, relatives, past teachers and ahost of other possible contacts. The why is as important as the who and the who refers to the student.

Annaliett,

It is a very good practice to collect all kinds of references, not just relatives, as you are doing. Sometimes those other references prove to be the most valuable when trying to locate a student.

We try to collect all types of information, not only the number of a member of their family, email address, work phone number, or any other person who is not relate it to them that can help us to contact them.

Robertina,

That's fantastic...the more information the better!

Excellent point! Often we think about references in terms of family members, but the most effective references might be friends and coworkers- people who interact with the student on a daily basis. When we rely on immediate family for references, we make a big assumption about the student’s relationship with his or her family, and this might lead to less successful skip tracing.
