FOCUS ON THE STUDENT

Sometimes it gets to be difficult to keep focused on the students.Teaching in a vocational school,we have short time periods for our courses,a lot of information must be given in the time alotted,so sometimes you get caught up in the job instead of the purpose for being there.and that is the education of the student. The REFOCUS for recharging and getting your head straight does help, but also do not forget about your self, sometimes just taking a day to relax and re-energize your self, gives you a better mind set and out look towards your class.

I agree. We all need down time, even if only teaching on an adjunct basis.

Our goal is NOT to teach, talk, tell. Our goal is to help learners understand and to engage new information with understanding and confidence. We cannot know how well we are helping learners learn if we don't ask, engage and get the learners invoved in the learning process. This communication will uncover exactly how well the pupils are learning/understanding. FOCUS on the student in order to know the level of their understanding of the material. Not many students will stand up and yell out "I'm lost".

Hi Tom,
You are correct about students sometimes being lost as a result of their not asking for help or you knowing they are lost. We have to constantly look for potential problem areas so we can provide support when and where needed.

It may be important and productive to find out or ask how well our students are learning the material we teach them and make some appropiate changes if needed and provide more supports.
