I am a full time instructor at MMTC in Lynchburg Va. I teach Psychology and career classes. Love adult learning/vocational learning.

Activity

As the online coordinator I see both the positive and negative issues with online learning. The students that I assit have the most issue with instructors not returning communication on time. Also they struggle with time managment. I have even had some students tell me they do not have time for the online class and that they need to work. When I ask them what they would do if the class happened to be a ground class, they tell me they would schedule work around it. I think with the push for online we need to focus on time managment… >>>

I took the class on student retention and I really learned so much form it. I am already using some of the methods that was taught. I am glad I took this class and think this will not only beneift my students but myself

Thank you so very much! I think our campus does a fantastic job of providing accomodations not only to those identified as having a disability but to those who may struggle. I see this campus as a great example of Universal Design that leads to accomodations already built into the curriculum. I appreciate your in response it was extremely helpful :)

Thank you for clarifying that. I was under the understanding that higher ed need to develop some type of form for accomodations such as a 504 plan. Your clarification makes a lot more sense now. :)

thank you and your exactally right. I was thinking more in lines of the instructors that need to know accomodations for students with disabilities however, other students just curious asking would NOT be appropriate.

I am one that holds confidentiality very high in expectations of individuals who work with individuals with disabilities. I think we need to be sure that everyone remembers that the only people who need to know what disability the individual has is those who have a right to know. I have had several students ask me "what is wrong with so and so" My answer is usually "that is not for me to discuss and this is a great time for you to practice confidentiality and try not to ask " I also make sure in the begining of every… >>>

I am very aware that the law that mandates 504 plans (Americans with Disabilities Act) was revised to include college. What I am wondering is does every college have to offer accomodations and who oversee these plans?
My background has always been in the area of working with individuals with disabilities. I am interested in learning what are the federal guidelines for the adult learner with a disability receiving accommodations?
