About me
I am a general education instructor for Delta Career Colleges. I have been teaching at a technical college for three years full-time. I have previous experience with elementary-high school. I also had the opportunity to teach adult education courses at a community college. Currently, I am working on my doctorate degree and look forward to working in leadership within the near future.
Activity
One thing about higher education is that we the instructors have academic freedom. However, most of the instructors are not aware of how their role within the classroom aids to the complete growth and development of the adult learner. The students who sit in our classrooms are most often not the traditional age student. For the nontraditional students, it is important for the learning objectives to be concrete and easily understandable. Nontraditional students often have barriers that influences their ability to attend class and comprehend information that is being taught. From this course, I have learned that it is necessary to identify the types of students that I will have within the classroom; additionally, I need to make sure that the methods of delivery for the information in conducive to the learning needs of my students. It is in the best interest of higher learning institutions to have technology that is equivalent to the demands of the institution. So many times, it has happened, where an instructor needs access to technology for various reasons to satisfy job descritption requirements and the technology fails. When campus effectiveness plans are created, technology is something that should be included in the necessities of a successful higher learning institution.

From my four years of teaching adult learners, it has been brought to my attention that these learners have a lot of experiences. To leave it at that, it can be very broad. However, the adult learners have been most times: parents, military personnel, managers, supervisors, employees of different trades, etc. and when they enter the classroom, their expectations are equivalent to the professor whom is instructing them.
@JAPeifer : While working with adult learners, I have found your statement to be true. When adults are able to relate the current information being taught to something that they will experience within the work place, they tend to retain the information better and are more receptive. It is a challenge to convince many of my students that English Composition is necessary on a daily basis, especially within the medical field. However, while accepting the challenge, we work on scenarios that will most likely happen when they are out in the workplace.
When dealing with a classroom that has students ages 18-50 years old, it is very important to include learning activities that will help all of them to become involved within the classroom. Learning is best obtained when students are self-directed and involved within the learning process.
What would be the best way to keep all of these students (18-50 yrs old) involved within the classroom?

The overview for this course provided me with information that will help me to revitalize my courses. I have generally been using most of the trainings from Max Knowledge to assist with how I interact and teach within the classroom. I have found that providing security to students during the course work has proved to be most helpful. When students know that the instructor has their best interest but is also willing to push them to a higher level of learning, the results are positive.

I have generally been using most of the trainings from Max Knowledge to assist with how I interact and teach within the classroom. I have found that providing security to students during the course work has proved to be most helpful. When students know that the instructor has their best interest but is also willing to push them to a higher level of learning, the results are positive.
