Activity

Erin, Great awareness! Not everyone is one size fits all, so it's great that you are offering other means of communication! Keep up the good work. Dr. Jean Norris
Connie, Taking the time to connect and build rapport on the other end of the line is important and can make the difference between moving forward with that person or not. Great advice! Dr. Jean Norris
Matthew, Thank you for sharing. This way you are showing respect to both the student in your office and the caller. Dr. Jean Norris
Laura, Agreed, and excellent point! Thank you for sharing. Dr. Jean Norris
Laura, It sounds like you really care about how you communicate with your staff. Great job! Do you have any suggestions on how you can improve this communication method? Dr. Jean Norris
That's great Erin. You're right, open-ended questions tend to encourage more talking by the individual and can lead to more discovery. You mention that you tend to stick with the same questions. While there are some great questions that you will likely want to ask every prospective student, how can you customize your approach and ask more specific or customized questions? Dr. Jean Norris
It looks like you have a good mix of Gen X and Baby Boomer traits. How do you think having this mix of styles helps you in your communication with others? Dr. Jean Norris
Why guess, right? Great approach Connie and thank you for sharing. Dr. Jean Norris
Communicating that you are an available resource to your students is a good practice, whether you have met them or not. You could even go a step further and let them know your hours the next day too just in case they can't get to you today. Do you find a difference between leaving this type of message for the students you know over the students you have yet to meet? Dr. Jean Norris
You bring up a great point, changing up your messages may not only be refreshing for your prospective students but for you and your co-workers as well! Let us know how it works out for you. Thank you for your post. Dr. Jean Norris
