About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

David, The more senses that can be used in learning the higher the cognitive retention is going to be. By adding examples for relevance and application and you will have students that leave class appreciating the what has been shared. Keep up the good work. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, I like this approach. It is concrete and visual which enables the students to "see" exactly what you are sharing with them. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Nicole, Thank you for your comments. Your last statement says it all. Most valued is acknowledgment based upon achievements and growth. This drives motivation at a higher level because it is emotional in base and students can "feel" the value of what they are learning. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Tim, Good strategies that are resulting in positive outcomes for the students. This is a win win for everyone. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, So true. Knowing their instructor is listening to them is a valuable rapport builder for students. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Daniel, When faced with such student attitudes I have an exercise that has my older students using their life experiences to problem solve a situation. It is laid out so there is close to a 100 percent success factor. This shows them they can be successful and that we (they and myself) will work together to build on their success if they are willing to put forth the effort. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Ghazanfar, I like the approach you are taking to the classroom. You have a very balanced student centered method of teaching. I know your students are gaining the knowledge they will need in their progress toward their careers. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Jennifer, This is a great way to keep students engaged and involved in the learning process. Your strategy really keeps the students focused on the content that has just been covered. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, In what way do you see student affect being a part of retention? Thanks for sharing. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
David, How do you define a positive learning environment? Gary Dr. Gary Meers
