About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

David, How do you model your professional behavior when working with students. Thanks for sharing with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
DaKetia, So much easier to start with a good impression rather than spending the course digging out from a negative one. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Lori, The key is to be a professional that students can look up to and respect because that individual models the standards of the field while moving their learning forward. Good points, thanks for sharing them with us. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Peggy, Having graduates come in serves as powerful motivators for students. I use them in my classes as well and my students really ramp up their efforts after a visit. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
DaKetia, So true. We instructors need to remember we are always "on stage" even when walking down the hall in our schools or out in the community. If we expect professional behavior from our students then we need to professionals in our conduct as well. This is walking the walk you mentioned. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Michele, Feedback and instructor support contribute so much to student retention. The more our students see that they are being successful the harder they will work on continuing their success. We need to make reinforcement specific so they know where they are improving and what they need to work on. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Melissa, They really do need to have some life directing goals. It seems to me that many of my students aren't planning but are hoping they will stumble onto something that excites them in terms of a career choice. An expensive way to find a career if they ever do. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
MANOJ, This is a very important part of teaching and it really helps the students to get involved. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Melissa, Good idea. Thanks for sharing it with us. I am sure this helps to build the confidence of the students as well as they talk with colleagues. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
Rudayna, I like your goal of creating a supportive and comfortable learning environment for your students. If they feed that they are respected and have something to contribute to the course they will be engaged at a much higher level. Gary Dr. Gary Meers
