I remember my time as an adult learner when I decided to go back to college to get a B.S. in Networking and Security to further myself in my chosen career field after being away from college for 8 years working in the industry. I remember how I found most of the instructors te be boring and clueless on how their subject really related to the industry I worked in. My teaching style really varies based on the type of class I am teaching. If it is a survey or lecture based class without any hands on labs, I tend still stop every few minutes and try to show relevancy of what we are covering to the career choices my students are pursing. If the class has labs or practice modules, I try to explain to the students how these labs relate to real word situations that they are likely to experience in their careers.

I have been teaching at the university level at 4 different institutions for over 10 years and have mostly taught at night. But I realized early on the huge difference when teaching adult learners versus young college age students. This course seems to really highlight that huge difference and need to use different teaching strategies for each category of students and in some cases per student, for a new instructor this course would likely be very valuable.

I think that may depend on what college or institution you are at. I know that the two state public colleges I have taught at recently both used IEPs. I had a student with an IEP in my last class there for physical disabilities. The college even had a department responsible for assisting students with disabilities and to certify that they had a disability and what accomodations we were required to provide them.
