Moving forward as an online instructor, in addition to the traditional classroom setting it's important to keep in mind the importance of managing the educational forum for fair, respectful, meaningful and individually supportive opportunities for all students.

 

As a teacher of 26+ years I found this course valuable as I transition into the online learning forum.

I can identify my learners and specifically address individual needs. Whether those needs are behavioral or a need for encouraging participation or providing different levels of technical support in order to help students successfully complete the course. Keep documentation.

 

Feedback is especially important in online learning due to the lack of face-to-face feedback found in the reg classroom. Monitoring discussion forums and providing individual feedback should be continuous. 

 

In Module 2, I have discovered the importance of building my online presence related to the motivation and respect aspects of my classroom. I've learned how to project and maintain my authority in online learning using my traditional classroom strategies. I am reminded that student success is built and maintained by healthy relationships, mutual respect, purposeful, and meaningful content and support provided in a timely and measured manner. I plan to implement the online Biography assignment as my first assignment, as well as messaging all students individually that first week and commenting personally. I think I will use a second… >>>

From this module, I have learned the importance of understanding the basic characteristics needed to manage an effective online course. The fact that I drive student success and completion of the course depends on my management and understanding of not only the content and tech support, but all the factors of the online class from presentation to grades and everything in between.
