I learned the importance of helping students set realistic life goals and connect course content to those goals so they see its value beyond the classroom. I also found that netiquette and time management skills are critical for online success, since respectful communication and effective planning directly affect student motivation and performance. I plan to apply this by modeling professional communication, providing clear time management tips, and showing students how their coursework links to their long-term personal and career goals.

I learned the value of using both asynchronous and synchronous tools to keep students engaged and connected in the online environment. I plan to apply this by balancing tools like email, discussion boards, and blogs with real-time options such as web conferencing and instant messaging to build community and improve communication. I also see the importance of posting “how-to” guides and encouraging feedback on the learning space so students feel supported and better prepared for success.

I learned the importance of teaching students about good online citizenship, academic honesty, and professional communication in order to create a supportive and ethical learning environment. I plan to apply this by clearly outlining expectations in my syllabus, reinforcing them through examples, and providing guidance on plagiarism, communication skills, and participation.
