Seems in today's world technological sheating is more exciting then simple doing the work from button hole cameras to wrist scanners students appear to spend more time than if they jsut applied their brains
Becasue the majority of IT certifications are in umltiple choice questions it is one I use to get them into a condition for sitting for the certs exams However, newly developed cert exams are using simulation models for quesitons and answers a simulation problem is thrown at the student with the requiremnt of fixing the problem and a number of points are awarded to the answer so exams require an 801of1000 to pass at 798 of 1000 a failure is announced with a retake at another time

unfortunately the technical world is a cut and dry world the assessments help students to know areas of deficit in preperation for hte certification exams but in most instances no matter what is taught it comes down to the studnet the machine the room and the exam it is like the game of golf all Certs are passed o na pass fail you need to score 80.1$ to pass at 79.9% it says thank you and come back next time even the assessments are based on that same philsophy Bill
I favor using a open ended question to allow interaction of the students and allow students to then interact with each other providing a dialog response which exudes a myraid of thoughts on a subject your can then include sevdera; students and their responses to further deepen hte question
