Using a varied approach to deliver content is most effective for the adult learner. It also uses the recommendations of multiple theories of adult learning...transformative (journals), andragogy, etc.

 

Academic advising should be done by individuals who have the knowledge and skills necessary to work with students on life goals, school goals, and time management. This will allow them to better serve students via developmental theory.

 

One of the most important tools of an instructor is active listening. 

 

The concept of the student as the customer is not exactly the same as in business. They are not simply paying for a product such as a diploma. The instructor must look at it more as providing an environment conducive to learning for the type of learner, the adult learner, that is seeking an education. 

 

As an instructor, it is important to assess both academic and non academic reasons a student may be having difficulties to identify them. Once identified, the instructor must have an understanding of all of the resources available to the students and get them in touch with these resources to help them succeed. Oftentimes, students just need to know the instructor cares about their success. 

 

Using varied learning strategies helps to reach multigenerational classes.

 

Instructors must have clear understanding if the technology they are using in the classroom or they will appear insincere. This is not something I thought of previously. I will make a bigger effort to understand technology and the necessary terminology. I would never want the student to think I was doing something just to do it. 

 

The generational differences really have an impact on learning and cannot be overlooked. Knowing your class make-up and working to meet their learning needs is our responsibility as a facilitator of learning.

 

A quality instructory values theprior learning and experiences of each student and uses the information to facilitate a knowedge based, experience driven, active learning environemnt that provides for the needs of all learners and their mechanisms of learning.

 

Adults need to be involved in learning to be interested and motivated. I will have a more interactive classroom.
