Desirae, I agree completely. Earlier in the post I mentioned that documented lesson plans can also serve as a log of "career milestones" for an instructor. It is always a great idea to reflect back and make appropriate revisions for future courses. Tremayne Simpson
Desirae, Great example. Students appreciate when their instructors can remember provided details about them. It ensures them that their instructor cares about them as an individual student, which can go a long way in creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment. Tremayne Simpson
Desirae, These are great methods for assessing student experience levels as well as knowledge in the subject areas. In addition, there can be an informal portfolio review for higher-level classes, for a better gage of the student's prior work. Tremayne Simpson

Crystal, This is a great "macro-leveled" approach to garner student feedback. We also have a student council, however they rarely discuss concerns from a "course level". In this context, instructors/administration may see common themes amongst students, that could lead to a potential change in course/program curricula. Tremayne Simpson
Anthony, Good observation...students are always thinking of the "what's in it for me concept", in that they are actively engaged in courses that are aligned with their career paths. Even when it is difficult to directly apply a course objective (to a desired career outcome), instructors should be creative and discuss the relevance to their students. Tremayne Simpson
Ryan, I also provide my students with a detailed, course schedule at the beginning of the course. I make sure to include it with the course syllabus, project sheets and grading rubrics for each assignment. Tremayne Simpson

Ryan, I agree that instructors should definitely pay attention to the reactions of "faster-paced" students and provide periodic challenges (to the class), in an effort to keep them engaged. I tend to use collaborative activities, that enable the "faster-paced" and "moderate-paced" to work together and challenge each other. Tremayne Simpson
Anthony, I also use this approach. It is best to give the assessment on the first day of the course, because it provides the instructor with an ample amount of time to revise the course lesson plan, based on the results. Tremayne Simpson
Bruce , Videos can provide the students with a great diversion, from the standard class lecture. I also, use periodic video clips, in order to provide the student with a different viewpoint of the subject-matter. In some cases, the students can comprehend a class topic easier, by seeing a related visual representation. Tremayne Simpson
Klaus, I agree completely..."mimicking" the approach of the industry, can provide the students with an excellent viewpoint from the professional realm. In these situations, they are able to envision themselves in their desired career. Tremayne Simpson
