Cynthia , This is a great method for turning what is usually a classroom obstacle (cell phone use) into an effective learning experience. In addition, instructors have to be extremely creative in regards to garnering student attention, which can be accomplished by effectively integrating technology. Tremayne Simpson
Germain, This activity provides your students with a great sense of "community" in the classroom. In addition, this will help them to build their networking skills, which will be extremely important for them to have, once they enter the career world. Tremayne Simpson
Tina, How have you/will implement the Learning Taxonomy principles into the structuring of your course lesson plan? Tremayne Simpson

Don , I agree. It is important to encourage students to provide feedback, however their suggestions have to be reviewed and must align with the course guidelines. Students also have the ability to "test" their instructors, in this case the could be testing if the instructor is "too quick" to deviate from their plans (based on a suggestion). Tremayne Simpson

Dave, It is a great idea to be prepared, in cases when you have completed your planned lessons early. It is not a good idea to dismiss the students early in those instances, because they may not perceive that the class was fulfilling for them, especially in a "monochronic" culture ("time is money"). Marshall, Student feedback can be very helpful in improving instructional technique. Generally, whenever students are commenting that the class pace is "too fast" it is for one of two reasons: 1) there may be too much text on the slides of your PowerPoints, in which students are not able to keep up with the advancement of the slides or 2) you are focused on covering all of the planned content for the day and naturally speed up the lecture, to ensure that everything is covered. My suggestions are to limit the amount of text on the slides (provide "key words"… >>>

Thomas, These are great methods for accomodating various learning styles. I have noticed that many instructors have used podcasts as a medium to deliver their lectures, which is a great way to provide information to students that may have missed or were late for a class section. Excellent last name! Tremayne Simpson
Cynthia , I also use a similar variety of assessments. I also try to diversify my written exams, by providing an even mix of multiple choice, true/false, short answer and essay questions. Tremayne Simpson
Thomas, I agree with your points of importance, in selecting course content. As I mentioned earlier in the post, students need to see individual relevance in a course, in order for them to be able to retain information. This "individual relevance" usually comes from the "authentic" examples (work, life and conceptual experiences) that are provided by the instructor of the course. Tremayne Simpson
