Rosamond, What methods have you/will you use to implement the learning taxonomy into your lesson plans? Tremayne Simpson
Thomas, In support of your observation, instructors must have "contingency" assignments in place for various scenarios, regarding student progress(based on assessment results). Tremayne Simpson
Renata , I agree with your observation. At your institution, are instructors able to create their own learning objectives or are they pre-populated by administration? Tremayne Simpson
tina, I agree. In addition, the students (with the assistance of the instructor) can always relate the goals back to their program/major objectives. Tremayne Simpson
Thomas, I agree with framing the objectives in a hierarchial format. It is also important to list the learning objectives in an incremental order, that reflects the categories of the learning taxonomy. It is a way to help the students stay on track and is also a good way to review towards the end of the course. Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Janet, This is a great point. In cases where students are participating in "off-topic" conversations, it is important to try to find a transition to the topic that is more class-related. Tremayne Simpson
Discussion Comment
Jesus, This is a good method for managing time in the classroom. I also find that it is important to store additional questions/activities onto the student portal/discussion board, which can be used when there is extra class time. Sometimes I can pull up some discussion board questions and highlight some of the great responses, that I receive from the students. Tremayne Simpson
Jesus, I agree. If time permits, I generally send an email to the students on my class roster (prior to the start of class), to provide them with an introduction of myself and an informal "get to know you" questionnaire. This is a great way to "break the ice" before the first class session. Tremayne Simpson
Martha, I agree...it is important that the students have an opportunity to meet their classmates and to discuss their backgrounds. I also find that students are very interested in hearing about the background of their instructors. Tremayne Simpson
Alberta, Are the course learning objectives aligned with the standards of the Ohio Board of Nursing? Tremayne Simpson
