CATS benefit the instructor by providing an idea about the depth of knowledge the class has already attained on the subject matter, and depending on the way CATS are posed, may also provide the instructor with an indicator about the best ways the students learn, help them reengage and focus, and determine if their understanding is enhanced at the end of the period of instrution.

Questioning is an excellent tool for engaging a class to focus on critical content. It is particularly important for the instructor to be a good listener and not discourage students from participating by cutting them off or criticizing responses. Instructors should have a plan for utilizing questions and evaluating if the questions are appropriate for the responses that they are getting. One technique is to record yourself as an instructor to ensure that your interaction with the class is effective with using questioning.

At any given time an instructor should expect to reach 50 to 60% of the class understanding that auditory and visual learners will learn most efficiently from lecture and PowerPoint presentations. While kinesthetic and written word learners may require extra time and activity to consume and understand information.
