Activity

A lot of students know how to text very well.  But they often forget when they send emails or type essays that they should not use text.  Therefore, it is important to take a few minutes to discuss the proper vocabulary and writing skills students should use when typing assignments or sending professional emails.  I learned that it is also important to teach students the proper way to cite information.  Therefore, it would be great to take at least one class section to have activities set up to help students learn about how to cite information.

Posting your biography is a great idea.  This gives students general information about you.  It may make the students feel more relaxed to open up to you if they have any issues with the online class.

I have learned that extroverted people take over conversations.  Therefore, during a discussion about the lesson I would ask each indiviudal to specific time limit to speak.

In this module it is recommended to use a rubric to give students feedback on an assignment.  I believe that sometimes a student may need a little assistance before grading an assignment.  A student may not have understood the directions clearly or may have gotton confused.  Therefore, before you give them a grade I beleive you could give an assessment through communicating through email.  Rubrics are a good resource to use in the final grading.

Do anyone have any ideas on to help retain students in distance learning classes?

In this module it mentioned what qualities students need to become successful.  The same standards and more applies to instructors.  If instructors expect students to abide by rules then the instructor should remodel the rules plus demonstrate qualities they want students to adhere.

I have been in ongoing communiction with my distance learning students.  Before, I started teaching from a distance I taught face to face classes.  Basically, the same guidelines shoud be followed they are just online.  For example, students need you to communicate and motivate them whether they see you in a structured classroom or online.  Whether you teach online or in a classrrom respect should be given from the facilitator and the student.

From this module, I have learned that I need to do some reserach on TikTok and Flickr.  I didn't know anything about that until this class.

I learned that I should have students reflect on their own school work.

Does any instructor know of a free audio program that reads to the student?
