FERPA is an important aspect in education and needs to be fully enforced for all students to feel safe and protected.
I wonder how this law will adapt or what adjustments will be made as technology increases and more information is available. I was amazed about how easy it was to search up people and get their address and how much they make annually. I can only imagine that it would be a lot harder for students to protect their identifiable information.
This part of FERPA is not fully enforced by many institutions. There are many cases when institutions post on social media or list student names of honor roll and graduation lists without specifically going back to what the student or parent indicated in the disclosure form.
Comment on Aaron Armendariz's post: Yes, it is something that is not emphasized that often on other FERPA training.
FERPA is law that protects students' educational records. These laws are in place to protect students from any outside agencies or people from tampering, acquiring, and use of these records for any reason.
