When I read the strategy of providing time for students who may need time to translate from their first language, I recalled an assumption I had made about this student who was trained in another country and was now learning how to do 'our' profession in a new country. I had assumed she was trained [learned terminology, ways of doing our profession, etc.] in her first language. Her and I seemed to not be communicating very well.
