About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

mario, Yes, many times our students can learn very well from our mistakes as well as our successes. Dr. Ryan Meers

Paul, Yes, many times we can pick up on the cues from the eyes that they don't understand even if they are unwilling to ask a question. Dr. Ryan Meers
Joseph, These are all great reasons for moving around the classroom. I have often found that it helps me to look at the notes they are taking as this can help me know if they are understanding the material or not. Dr. Ryan Meers
phillip, When our students know that we move around it keeps them engaged & will reduce these other undesirable behaviors as they never know when we will be moving their direction. Dr. Ryan Meers
Thomas, For all of the reasons you have stated, eye contact is so vital for us in the classroom. It really is a great way to engage those "back benchers" as you say. Dr. Ryan Meers
Thomas, I too like to move around. It not only keeps the students' attention but also helps me stay more alert & focused on what I'm discussing. Dr. Ryan Meers
Richard, This is a great goal. I would encourage you to consider observing or listening to a master storyteller. These individuals generally have mastered the use of pausing, pitch, etc to hold their audience's attention. Dr. Ryan Meers
