About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Discussion Comment
Cheryl, yes these groups really can be great reflections of how the professional work world will be for them. Dr. Ryan Meers
Amber, I agree with your statement here. Often the reason that group work fails is because we, as the instructor, have not given it the adequate time & prep it needs to be successful. Dr. Ryan Meers
Dale, and beyond using the real life examples you are also helping to move from the more known to the more unfamiliar. This is a great technique to help the students learn & retain the information better. Dr. Ryan Meers
Zekrayat, these are all great strategies that you mention that help to keep the students engaged & with you. Dr. Ryan Meers
Miriam, unfortunately the value of technology has diminished the emphasis on good interpersonal skills & just plain politeness. Dr. Ryan Meers
Ray, this is a great idea to keep the students engaged & does not cost anything. Dr. Ryan Meers
Miriam, and I think this also helps them see that not every situation is the same, but the skills applied are. Dr. Ryan Meers
Miriam, and this is a great way to teach them "responsible" use of technology as they can learn to be good consumers of the information & not just take everything they read. Dr. Ryan Meers
