About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Irina, I agree that the more we can share this info with our students they will further develop & see that we too are continuing to learn. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
kisha, your statement is right on. It really is important to help our students see how these concepts play out in their fields. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Lisa, good question. I think you can overcome this in a couple of ways. One way is ask the class to keep the "stuff" tucked in so you can walk around. The other is to be more "subtle" & to just go ahead & walk up the aisles & then they see you struggling & eventually get the hint to keep the stuff tucked in. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Richard, definitely true! If we have demonstrated our compassion & concern & care in the past they will definitely be more open to it when we are ready to coach. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Charla, it can be a great way to learn if we can pull it off. By the way, love the veggies in the casserole analogy. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Charla, maybe I'm the eternal optimist but I don't think it is too late. It does require a significant level of teaching & "educating" on why this behavior is rude. There have been some recent articles on how poor etiquette is costing this generation jobs. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Michael, yes, this can be a significant challenge when we are working with the older generations of learners. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Deborah, this is a great way to use what you have to approach all of the senses. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Deborah, those real life examples really are helpful to the students & can also help you reflect on the "real world" for application. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Dale, this is a great idea to help them prepare for the reading & review while they go along. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
