About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Activity

Corliss, this is an ongoing challenge. I add a group feedback/peer report grade component into my group projects. It's not the magic cure-all but can help some with accountability. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Tim, I agree wholeheartedly. I think some instructors think this means we're becoming entertainers, but when you look at the great speakers of history & read their speeches, they were vibrant in their speaking & illustrations. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Andre, great strategy to help those learners who have not been identified or have not sought accomodation. This allows them to seek the help they need without embarrassment. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Andre, I like all of what you said; particularly the part about sharing failures & successes. Our students will fail & if we can share our own stories of learning & bouncing back from failure this will help them to not quit. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Jessica, This really works well and helps the students learn more about project management. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Andre, this is a great way to assign the student groups. Once this pattern is set it can be used as a teaching tool on forming groups. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Jonathan, This is definitely a struggle for all of us. I like to remember that some students just need to be invited to participate. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Laura, yes, the more we can connect the classroom to the real world, the more the students will really see the value. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Kimberly, it is true that we do have to really prepare to engage our students. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Sherry, yes, when we can repeat the information this can really help all students. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
