About me

I have a passion for education and especially for ensuring that all of us continue to apply what we have learned.  I am excited about the opportunity that the Lounge provides for all of us to discuss how we are applying what we have learned & to share those great ideas.

I have had a varied background from secondary education to corporate training & now working in the career college sector.  But while I have moved in different circles it has always been surrounding my passion of education.  I look forward to our conversations.

Diana, I have found that this generation does like the small group discussion & to hear from others. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Jessica, you definitely have to keep things moving with the Gen Y learner in order to keep them engaged & moving forward with the material. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Elizabeth, many will not as they may be embarrassed. The best we can do is show that we are open to helping all of our students & then hopefully they will seek our help. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
stacy, an understanding of cultural differences is a great way to start to bridge some of those gaps. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Elizabeth, these are great points & having them tell their stories really is a great way to conduct an informal preassessment. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Ledio, you bring up a good point here. We cannot fix this problem 100% & we shouldn't stress ourselves if we can't. These groups are helpful to the students & we have to help them see that. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Nichole , yes, we can't turn them off, but being aware that they are happening is a first step in controlling them. If there is a way to mix up your lectures a little this might help you to slow down. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
kathryn, yes, the teacher is the leader in the classroom so the traits we look for in a good leader (those you've mentioned here) are so important for a teacher as well. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
Catharine , yes, this is a great approach & by doing this the students do tend to retain the information even better. Ryan Meers, Ph.D.
