About me

Sandra Young a native Washingtonian born in the District of Columbia attended DC Public Schools until the age of 14.  Then relocated in Maryland a year or two.  Had my first son at the age of sixteen and moved back to the District for five years.  I left high school 1979.  In 1980 I completed high school by attending night school.  In 1981, I return to school by Trade in Office Skills under the Washington School for Secretaries where I received my diploma in the trade in 1982,.  I always wanted to go to college therefore, I registered to find that I could not afford it, but never gave up.  I entered Prince George's Community College and received my Associate's Degree in Business Management.  After then, I continued and received my Bachelor's Degree in Management Studies under Maryland University Global College.  I'm considered a Lifelong Learner where I continue to learn different majors.  I worked in Elementary Education for over 17 years under the Special Educational and Computer Science Departments.

My greatest accomplishment is raising my three sons in a loving Christian home ,and they are now working citizens with great potentials.  The second greatest accomplishment is meeting my wonderful husband of 33 years this August.  Yes, it hasn't been the fairy tale live happily ever after, but constance loving over and over again.  My third accomplishment is leading a group of students to win an award of being the sixth elementary school to become a Green School in Maryland under the MAEOE in 2016.  Now, I'm very proud of being a President of an Association volunteerily (2019-2020) while leading a group of teacher in my church's Children's Church and Nursery (2018-2020).

Reply to Marvin Jimenez's post:   I truly like your suggesition; I hope you don't mind if I use your idea.  Video my biography  sounds like a real dramatic skit coming up.

Reply to Lawrence Bufalino's post:  Well written Lawrence.  As an online instructor myself under the ELL, I was not informed by all the protocol of teaching online.  I will also become a better e-teacher, too!.

Reply to Christena Lushnikov's post: Yes, Christena, I never knew the tone of my voice until someone stated that my tone was demanding.  Ive always taking the authoritative approach but didn't realize I was doing this across the board.  It didn't matter if you were an adult, or mother, father, sister or brother even an adult son. First I didn't listen to myself as the thought process was released.

This is what I've learned from the model.  The importance to project my presence and authority in e=learning are these:  I must make myself known to all students by sharing a short biography of my academics, qualiifications, achievements, and hobbies, and interests.  I must also allow students the same right on the first day and first week to share their story of themselves.  I must inform students of virtural office hours and be sensitive to those who live in different time zones.  I must also remind students of my expectations and give constructive and instructive feedback in order to keep… >>>

Always show structure and being organized  Try to always shown diginity in your voice, tone, and behavior.  Lastly, be willing to own up to your mistakes.  Thank you for the… >>>

Reply to Amelia Robinson's post:  As an instructor would you say you go by the book "word for word" or you have a different style of teaching?  How do you know you have covered all the basis of the context? Teachers have teaching styles but are they effective when instructing the students?

Reply to Lisa Haldeman's post:  Hi Lisa,  in an online setting, how would help to engage those students who fall behind?  How would you enlighten their curosity?

Reply to Rhonda Lucas's post: Yes, fast feedback helps the student engage in their project and give them a sense in gaining their knowledge in any given context.  Also, I found if you join students together as buddy partners that are really getting immediate feedback for a peer which they better learn from.
