About me

I LOVE Classical Ballet.  My Mother started my sister & me in ballet classes at young ages.  I danced professionally with LA Ballet Society until age 19 when I realized I needed a formal education.  Fast forward...a dental assistant until I realized it was a "dead end" job.  Then to Nursing School, no accelerated courses at that time, so started with a community college (Mt. SAC) to get my ADN, then to CSUF to obtain my BSN, then later to University of Phoenix to obtain my MSN.  My workplace experience landed me a position at UCIMC.  The best decision of my life!  A 411 Bed Level I Trauma Center, a Burn Center, a Teaching & Research Hospital, one of the nations Top 10 academic medical centers, a Certified Stroke Center & a Magnet Hospital to name a few.  I floated to all FIVE Intensive Care Units, the ED, & PACU!  I participated on the Critical Care Council.  An amazing experience.

Now retired off the bedside I am teaching LVN students with American Career College.

My interests & hobbies to keep a balanced life; first is sailboat racing!  I am part of the crew on a J112e, a beautiful, fast new sailboat in 2024.  I grow Plumerias. On one of my several visits to Maui I fell in love with Plumerias, the vast colors, the fragrance, and the ease of growing got me hooked!  I also have two "best friends"  my doggies, Jackson & Tango.

Activity

This module provided all elements to prepare a teaching-learning session. My Practicum project for Masters in Nursing consisted of all the elements as well.  These elements are written & provided for us through the VN program.  I agree with most everyone else that it is important to keep an outline & notepad nearby to be sure you remember everything to be taught & to jot down any notes or questions that come up.  I appreciate the section that mentions students will test our knowledge everyday, so it is important to be an expert in the subject matter.

This module "Prepare to teach" is an excellent review of how to develop and teach a course.  My MSN Practicum project (Write P&P for positioning pt on Roto-Prone bed, with hands on teaching of ICU nurses) required the same elements.  Instructing students in the VN program, everything is prepared for us.  I agree with most everybody, to keep an outline and  notepad handy to make sure nothing is missed and jot down notes.  I appreciate the part "students will test your knowledge every day"... so make sure you are an expert on the subject matter.

This module; developing as an Instructor met all the stated objectives. The roles instructors play, as a role model, a motivator, and a manager.  I need to be aware of where to draw the line  to keep the student-instructor relationship.  I have rental property and have learned to Never become "friends" with your tenants.  The competencies for instructor success technical & professional make sense.  Instructional styles and when to use them appropriately are key to student learning. Form & maintain a professional image is part of role modeling.  Creating a professional development plan will align you to be an excellent… >>>
