About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Ida Romelle, Absolutely! Each person has a a role. The role of the instructor is to lead by example in all areas, and the role of the student is to follow the instructor's lead. Patricia Scales
Hi Karen, Yes! Guest speakers are priceless and students absolutely love them. Guest speakers add a lot of flavor to the course, and they really bring book theory to real life. Students love hearing how things are like in the real world. They want to know what they will face once they start their career. Students love knowing what they are learning in the classroom is applicable to the real world, and guest speakers help with this reinforcement! Patricia Scales
Hi Ronnie, Excellent approach! Give them theory and then let them do. Patricia Scales
Hi Jaime, I can really see how this activity tests one ability to think critically. It is also good that you have the students explain why they chose one algorithm over the other. Patricia Scales
Hi Ben, Great way to test critical thinking. Being able to think critically in the auto industry is a must. This type of work is very methodical. Patricia Scales
Hi Gretchen, The battle plan is a good way to test one's knowledge and to determine their critical thinking abilities. Patricia Scales
Hi Donald, Going through the motion just to pass is never good. Students really do need to fully understand and utilize their critical/analytical thinking skills when they are performing a task at hand. Patricia Scales
Hi Darren, Students tend to have a better understanding through the use of lecture, then lab, and then re-explaining. Students must know the importance of being precise. Patricia Scales
Hi Tracy, Great tactic to utilize to ensure your students are following you and they understand. You can catch confusion early this way, which is better. Patricia Scales
Hi Jennifer, Students love us sharing examples and stories with them as to how they apply to the real world. Students really want to and need to know how things are in the real world. Patricia Scales
