About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Cain, Great ways to generate excitement. I also like bringing in a graduate guest speaker to get students pumped up. Patricia Scales
Hi Rachael, Excitement certainly begins with the instructor. When the instructor gets excited, most of the students will get excited. Patricia Scales
Hi Kim, Students really love hearing our stories that are applicable to the course content. Patricia Scales
Hi Raymond, The first day is the day to lay out all rules. You have to let students know on Day 1 that you are all about business, and you must provide students with great clarity as well. Patricia Scales

Hi James, You must get students to see the relevancy of the course so that they continue to come back each day. Students need to know how they are going to benefit from the course. Patricia Scales

Hi Lyle, You have it! It is certainly everyone's role to work retention. We have to help our students keep their eyes on the prize. Patricia Scales

Hi Scott, Awesome story! Some students simply just need some one-on-one time. It is amazing what a little bit of attention will do for a student. The proof is in the paragraph stated above. We have to be here for our students. Some of our students need us more than others. Patricia Scales
