About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Cynthia, Absolutely! Rapport is very important. Everything runs smoothly when a relationship is involved. Patricia Scales
Hi Teresa, Listening is key! When a student's emotions are raw you are not going to be able to rationalize with the student. Patricia Scales
Hi Yolanda, Trying to establish a rapport with silent students is a big plus. They tend to open up more when they have a relationship with you. Patricia Scales
Hi Bryan, Students sometimes can give you very constructive feedback that can certainly make a positive difference in the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Charles, It certainly is important for students to be able to retain the information so that they can apply what they have learned on the job. I like to make it plain to students how the information is going to help them in their career to show course relevancy. Patricia Scales
Hi Merry, Distance is a must in the student/instructor relationship. Never get too close with your students personally. Patricia Scales
Hi Olaolu, Professionalism is a must! Students will respect you in high regards, if you are professional. Patricia Scales
