About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Lisa, Students need to know exactly what is expected of them on Day 1. Most of our students have a lot going on with family, work, etc. Patricia Scales
Hi Paula, Students love visuals, and visuals add great clarity. Patricia Scales
Hi Mary, When students understand the relevance of the course as it applies to their career, they will definitely buy in. Patricia Scales
Hi Tom, I agree! When students can actually apply what they have learned, they got it! Patricia Scales
Hi Donald, I concur! A good indicator to determine that a student has bought into the course is when the students keeps coming back every day to class. Patricia Scales
Hi Thomas, I feel the same as you do! I love teaching because of the whole learning process and what is gained from it. Over the 23 years, my students have taught me an abundance of knowledge. Patricia Scales
Hi Karen, These exercises certainly promote critical thinking, and they are very applicable to what students will encounter on the job. Patricia Scales
Hi Kerry, Absolutely! As instructors, we need to focus as much as we can on making learning apply to the real world so that students can get what they need in order to be successful in the workplace. Patricia Scales
Hi Denise, Use scenarios, simulations, mock learning, case studies, and role playing to promote critical thinking. Patricia Scales
Hi Martin, Great way to make learning apply to the real world. Students love this type of learning. Patricia Scales
