About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Julia, Students get it when we get close to or near them. They know that we have realized that they are not paying attention. Patricia Scales
Hi Zane, I concur! Excitement starts with the instructor, and it can certainly spread to the students. Let's get excited about our subject matter that we are teaching. Patricia Scales
Hi Deb, It is important to make it known to students how the information is going to benefit them on the job. Patricia Scales
Hi Kenneth, What a response! Instructors have to do a superb job selling the course to students to generate buy in. When the instructor lets the students know how the course is going to help them in their career, students tend to buy in because they understand the benefit of the course to them. Patricia Scales
Hi Jennifer, I like how you make the lesson apply to the normal way of living. Students do gain a better understanding when we can make learning apply to something outside of the classroom. Patricia Scales
Hi Paul, I love your approach to teaching a concept! You cover all bases. You lecture, show, have the students apply what they have learned, you monitor your students while they are performing providing assistance, and you discuss...how thorough!!! Patricia Scales

Hi Lacey, Good customer service is a must! I always tell personnel the best compliment that we can receive is to have a student refer someone to our institution. Patricia Scales
Hi Patricia, I have witnessed that many students learn by doing it or seeing an example. We need to use variation in our teaching methods so that we reach all learners. Patricia Scales

Hi Ron, As instructors, we are definitely key players. We see our students more than anyone else in the building does, and we must sell them to keep coming back. Patricia Scales
