About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi David, Accumulate some excellent examples! Students have a better understanding when examples are shared. Patricia Scales
Hi Glenn, You are on point! Personal needs to be kept out of the classroom. The class period is strictly about business. Patricia Scales
Hi Terry, Good idea to let them lead and have ownership in something. Patricia Scales
Hi Jocelyn, I tell every new instructor do not ever tell students you are new, most will know you are because they have never seen you. Make your presence strong and be thoroughly prepared each day so that you will make a great impression on students. Patricia Scales
Hi Melinda, Sudents need to know how they are going to benefit from the course either or both personally/professionally in order to understand the relevancy of the course. Patricia Scales
Hi John, Students get it when they can see it! Patricia Scales
Hi Shawn, Visual adds better clarity. Most students gain a better understanding by seeing. Patricia Scales
Discussion Comment
Hi Fredrik, You are on point! The moment you notice a change in students, you should talk to them so that you can help them as early as possible to try to get back on track. Life happens, and some students really need us. Patricia Scales
