About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Manuela, I experience a similar situation. A young lady I went to college with attended the sohool where I need teach, and she called me by my first name. I immediately told her while she was at the institution that I was Mrs. Scales, off the premises she could call me Trish. She respected the directive. Patricia Scales
Hi Nicole, The first day introductions is a good period to bond and to find out those who have things in common with you. Patricia Scales
Hi Natalie, Students love hearing our stories as they apply to their field. Patricia Scales
Hi Manuela, What a great way to get students excited about the course. Students love it when they can take a break away from the class, and yet learn. Even adults get excited about field trips. Patricia Scales
Hi June, I love it! Students love hands-on exercises to help promote learning. The reading made me excited, therefore I certainly understand your students excitement from actually doing the exercise. Patricia Scales
Hi Gregg, When students understand the benefit of the course to them, they become more excited about learning the course content because they understand the relevance. Patricia Scales
Hi Cathryn, I like how you give students something to look forward to as well as you keep them abreast of current events. Patricia Scales
Hi Brian, When students get excited from the instructor about working in their field, we have motivated/engaged the student. Patricia Scales
Hi Mark, I concur! The instructor must maintain control in the classroom for effective learning to take place. Patricia Scales
Hi Gerry, Students really learn when learning is made fun! Competition can be a good thing, and in this sense, it is. I have found that students retain more information when they enjoy the lesson. Continue to make learning fun, and you will see better results on tests/quizzes. Patricia Scales
