About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Earl, You do a great job with providing clarity to your students. Things flow better when clarification has been added. Patricia Scales
Hi William, No one wants to be bored. It is our job as the instructor to make the course as exciting as possbile. Trying different teaching methods is a good way to generate excitement. Try things such as field trips, guest speakers, scenarios, simulations, mock learning, peer teaching, technology, etc. Patricia Scales
Hi Virginia, Our students need as much reinforcement as possible. Reinforcement generates better retention. Patricia Scales
Hi Brittney, Great analogy! Students automatically become interested when they understand how the course is going to benefit them in the workforce. Patricia Scales
Hi Wade, I concur! Relevancy creates automatic buy in. Adult learners have to understand the benefit. Patricia Scales
Hi Hannah, Seeing is believing and generate a better sense of understanding. Patricia Scales
Hi Bonnie, If there is a small setting, it is always better to make the students come closer together; better participation/interest is generated when students feel as though they are a team. Patricia Scales
Hi Amanda, You get to set your rules. You can certainly issue a 0 if a student does not turn in their assignments on time, or you can even deduct points. It is your call. Patricia Scales
Hi Hope, A great way to generate discussion is to share a personal story/experience that is applicable to the topic. Students are amused by our experiences. Patricia Scales
Hi Clayton, This is certainly a clever way to test a student's analytical skills. It also amazes me how students interpret the same thing differently. Patricia Scales
