About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Monica, Great way to promote active learning. Students learn best by doing. I love it how you lecture on a topic and then have your students do what you have lectured on. Patricia Scales
Hi Cynthia It is best to let your students know when you don't know something. No one knows everything! Honesty is the best policy. Students can tell when you do not know, but you act like you do know. Students will respect you more when you admit to not knowing, but you will find the answer for them. Patricia Scales
Hi Lisa, Yes! Lead by example! Be the professional that you want your students to become! Patricia Scales
Hi Nicole, I understand! I point this out to cheating students all the time...turning in someone else's work as if it were your own. Trying to get credit for someone else's work is cheating. Patricia Scales
Hi Angela, What do you do to reel in your silent students. I like to make my silent students leaders. Patricia Scales
Hi Gregrey, Excitement truly starts with the instructor. Remember, excitement is contagious as well. Let your students catch your excitement! Patricia Scales

Hi Sandi, I love mid-term counseling. Some students will really kick it in gear if they need to after being spoken to. It is a good check point for students. They still have an opportunity to be successful. Patricia Scales

Hi John, Honesty is the best policy. We do not need to sugar coat things with our students. We need to be honest and shoot straight from the hip with them. The real world is not sugar coated. Patricia Scales
Hi Fred, Guest speakers are super motivating, and they add a lot of flavor to the course. Students enjoy hearing from a guest speakers. Guest speakers typically validate what we have been teaching. Patricia Scales
