About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Hong, You are on point! Stay neutral in all situations with the student. Develop a professional student/instructor relationship. All other relationships are way too risky. Patricia Scales

Hi Kenneth, We have to treat our students as great customers, but we have to also let them know when they are wrong. Students are not always right. We also have to hold our students accountable and to very high standards. Patricia Scales

Hi Kevin, I agree! Management should always support staff. It is nothing like an instructor having their legs cut from under them from management. If the instructor did not handle the situation to my approval, I let the instructor know privately how the situation could have been handled better, but we still go with the instructor's decision. Hi ROBIN, Wow, you have an awesome system in place to curtail cheating. It is a lot easier to cheat these days due to technology. Students have to be watched during testing and given guidelines because some students can't be trusted. Patricia Scales
Hi Angela, Silent students really do tend to open up more when they are not isolated and everyone is involved. Silent students really do not like being put on the spot solo. Patricia Scales
Hi Doree, I concur! I love to make small talk with these students to try to build a relationship. Patricia Scales
