About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Michael, You can even use different formatting on your syllabus to draw attention to when assignments are due. Patricia Scales
Hi Salma, It is good for questions that pertain to the lesson to be addressed in class because invariably it is another student with that same question. Patricia Scales
Hi Frank, When you say things outlandish you really grab students attention, and you can certainly take off from that point. Patricia Scales
Hi Thomas, Great points! I also let the students know how the course will benefit them in their career. Patricia Scales
Hi Gary, You certainly understand the advantages of sharing examples with students. Students get it when they can see it. Patricia Scales

Hi Terry, I concur! I have witnessed this type of behavior from instructors. Students really do need to know that we genuinely care about them. Patricia Scales

Hi Taylor, Everyone is involved when it comes to retention, however instructors really do seem to be more involved, simply because the instructors deal with the students on an everyday basis. Patricia Scales

Hi Leonardo, I concur! Retention is the job of everyone, but the instructor is likely to work retention more than other personnel. Patricia Scales
Discussion Comment
Hi Michael, We as instructors really do see our students more so than the other departments. We have to be very observant and pay attention to our students so that we can read signs when they are becoming unmotivated. The minute a student's attitude changes for the worse, immediately confront the student to determine what is going on. Patricia Scales
Hi Kallie, It is good when you relate situations with students to the real world. Students need to understand in the real world they must conform, otherwise their employment will be short lived. Patricia Scales
