About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Meredith, Students must be able to connect the dots. When dots are connected students certainly understand the relevance. Students need to know the benefit of the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Timothy, You have an easy course to promote buy in. EVERYONE who is old enough to understand, really understands the importance of technology in today's society. Patricia Scales
Hi Tim, Students need to understand the relevance of the course in order to generate buy in. You make great use of local examples to help your students understand this course. Great job on promoting buy in! Patricia Scales
Hi Maurice, I agree! Discussion has always been away to get everyone involved and to help quickly determine those who are grasping. Patricia Scales

Hi Valerie, I concur! When students are engaged and they understand the benefit of the course they will continue to come back! Patricia Scales
Hi lilia, Case studies, scenarios, role playing, and mock learning are my favorites for generating critical thinking as well as analytical thinking. Students also have to use problem solving with these activities as well. Patricia Scales
Hi Pauletta, You have it! I can tell just from your response that you are extremely professional, and you practice what you preach. I am sure your students have great respect for you. Patricia Scales

Hi Phyllis, Allowing students to make their own decision with some guidance causes the students to have full ownership. Advising is a lot like parenting, give input, but the ultimate decision should be left to the student since the student is of age. Patricia Scales
Hi Cynthia, That's right! Favoritism is frowned upon! We should treat all students the same. Patricia Scales
Hi Edward, I love how you make your students think on their own. We need to promote more critical thinking from our students. We are not going to be with our students on the job. They have to think for themselves. Patricia Scales
