Record keeping will be a big part of the online class.  Document everything, just as in the traditional classroom.  Being new to the online environment, I was surprised that students may try to commandeer the class or be rude and aggressive in their posts.  I need to study my district's online policy before beginning any online courses.

I learned the differences between asynchronous and synchronous discussions.  I also learned the different learning styles of online learners.  I was familiar with traditional learning styles and was intrigued by the new titles for learning styles.  I see that constructive criticism and some feedback needs to be directed to particular learners and not the entire group.

Just like in a traditional setting, it is important to develop a sense of community in the classroom.  It is important to get to know students and likewise it is important for students to get to know the teacher.  This can be accomplished by having each student submit a biography the first day and the teacher can attach a biography of themselves that includes the academic credentials and experience.  By the end of the first week, the teacher may send a personal message to individual students to help get acquainted with each other.

I am new to teaching online.  I have taken online courses in the past, but I have never taught them.  I see the importance of the teacher begin prepared before beginning the process as to the comfort level of students.  I also see the importance of technical support for students.  I realize that teachers have many things that they need to be able to do before beginning the online class.
