I think knowing and understanding these laws and the intentions behind them, it empowers us as educators to have an awareness of what constitutes discrimination/harassment in our teaching environment. Understanding these laws may help us identify potential problems, especially in f2f environments, before they actually materialize. I have not previously worked in a place that required Title IX and/or VAWA training, but it is good to know when and where to turn to should I ever come across a situation that requires reporting.
