I learnt about rubrics and their effectiveness. It is best to use them in assessments. They provide a measure of quality of performance on the basis of established criteria and benchmarks or samples that serve as standards against which student performance is judged.
I learnt about the Norm-referenced assessments and how they are used to compare a student's skills to skills of others within a particular group. They are most appropriate when the instructor wants to make comparisons across a large number of students.
If students are given diagnostic pre-assessments, it helps the instructor obtains information about their students. It gives the instructor prior knowledge, skills, and/or misconceptions before the course begins or before a learning activity.
Getting feedback from students about assessment process provides information on whether or not the technology tools helped and what difficulties it caused them
I have learnt that as an instructor it is better to perform demonstrations in 5-7 steps only to keep students engaged. you should also practice these demonstrations before you do them in class
I have learnt that introducing yourself and your experience also has a lot to do with students feeling at ease in the first day of class and this can keep them going through the course. You also have to let them introduce themselves since you also have to know something about your students
I learnt that the learning environment is very important in being a good teacher. A comfortable classroom sets the tone for how the students are going perceive me and the way I teach
As an instructor, you have to always have a student-first approach in the classroom. Its all about the learning and how students will grasp the concept of what you are giving them
Create an atmosphere where students will be able to connect their life experiences to what is learnt in the classroom. Make them feel free to take risks, make mistakes in class and help them by correcting them in a caring way. Do not embarrass them for any reason but let them feel appreciated for their efforts
As an instructor I don't have to be perfect; I only have to be myself. Once I remember this, teaching becomes much easier and more enjoyable.
