Activity

Outlines the pros and cons of each question methodology so you can match them with the type of learning you need to assess.

By varying assessment types, you can evaluate if students actually know the material instead of simply repeating memorized answers.

Open ended questions are the best when you can use them because it helps engage the entire class.

It best if you can vary the teaching styles, but for some subjects to lend themselves to a particular style so you can just interject a different style at appropriate times which also helps break up the lessons to keep the students engaged.

Being able to show real world application of what they are learning goes a long way to keep them motivated although it takes a little extra for younger students.

The REFOCUS method is a good to use for "dry" material that needs to be covered to keep the students' interest.

Opening the class in a "lighthearted" way allows you gauge the mood of the students but also gives them a moment to relax before starting the lesson material.

When it comes to hands on learning and/or labs students learn in a slightly different manner and rate. If you can you can partner students together that will compliment each other to get the most out of the labs or hands on portion of the class.

Try to vary the lecture style throughout the presentation to keep the students engaged or at least change them between modules.

It is important to set expectations for the class while also getting to know a little about your students.
