Some students speak to me in Spanish because of my background but I never speak to them in Spanish or answer their questions when they are in Spanish. Should I answer them in Spanish? I tell them that all communication must be done in English

The part on tips for power point was excellent. I use power points in many of my presentations and I will definitely change a couple of things based on the info found in ED 105

Students will ask this question many times during the course therefore grading papers and exams as soon as possible is necessary to provide students with the right feedback. Electronic posting of grades helps to reduce this type of questions. What ways you use to provide student performance status in your class?

Sometimes the amount of information to present the material is not enough so removing part of the content to fit the time is an strategy used deliver the material. Is that a good strategy? Let me know what you think
Good grades are necessary to get a degree and a degree may open the door to get a job but a job may not last for long if the student lacks soft skills. Good study habits are necessary to succeed in school but good work habits are necessary to succeed in you job
For example, in a biology class, some students may want to become nurses, others biologist and maybe some others biochemical engineers. I agree that field trips are good for students but for example taking students to a coral reef may be interesting for a biology major student but not so much for a biochemical engineer. I would assume 2 or 3 trips per term might be OK to give all students the opportunity to see something in their field. Are 2 - 3 trips per term too much? Is 1 trip per term too little? Any feedback is welcome

I have been teaching for many years and I have encounter many different types of students and different classroom situations. The angry student, the "I know everyting" student etc. I never thought about it but it was very informative to have all this information in ED 104. I guess it never cross my mind to summarize all this information and evaluate the good and not so good approaches to each class situation.

I could say that I have a "1 size fits all" type of syllabus but some areas of my syllabus have specific items for different courses. For example: if you are taking the 6 weeks course then you must take etc etc... if you are taking the 12 weeks course then you must take etc etc.... If you are taking the 16 weeks course then you must take .... Having 3 different syllabus for the same course, same term just different starting and end dates makes it confusing and that is the reason why I have the 1 size fits… >>>

Hi Yes I also do the same thing. Usually it does not get out of hand but if something like that happens either I make a general class announcement or talk to each specific student outside after the class is over

Hi Patricia I agree with you. This is what I think. In some cases I believe there might be situations when a student may need to use the phone. I even think that instructors may also need to use the phone. For example somebody may have a child in childcare and they know if childcare calls is because there is an emergency so the student/instructor may need to go outside to take the call. In those cases students being a little distracted because an student went outside the classroom is a trade off because nobody know when an emergency may… >>>
