Hi Susie- Thanks for your post to the forum. I really like your "Soft-ball" question idea. I agree that often the problem is not that the student is unprepared, it is more that they are shy or have self-esteem issues. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Matthew- Thanks for your post to the forum. What you have described is a very comprehensive approach to assessment - great work! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Sara- Thanks for your post to the forum. I really liked your idea of giving discussion questions to students in advance! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Christina - Thanks for your post to the forum. I am sure you will find that knowing the learning styles is really usefull as you plan your lessons! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Lori - You can also "Park" those off-topic questions/concepts on the Whiteboard and get to them at the end of class. Best wishes- Susan
Hi Renee-Thanks for your post to the forum. Being diligent about reviewing our tests is so important. A test is only effective if it assesses what we want it to and the results are valid and reliable. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Brian - Thanks for your post to the forum. Sending your students home after class with the understanding that you will be asking them about something specific, allows students to do some thinking/research about the topic in advance. This will often make the shy or unsure student to be more inclined to participate. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Denelle- Thanks for your post to the forum. Also, if students know that a "Pop Quiz" may happen at any time, they are more likely to pay attention! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Lori- Thanks for your post to the forum. You are wise to include the frequent quizzes in your assessment plans. Too often instructors wait till mid-term and find that their students have not achieved the competency that was expected at that point. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Danelle - Thanks for your post to the forum. I love to search for relevant videos on You Tube for my classes. They are free and so often really terrific additions to my lessons and especially appreciated by visual learners! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
