HI Carol- Thanks for your post to the forum. Leading effective questioning is always tricky for instructors. As you prep your questions, try to think of where your students may go with them and come up with a rewind strategy. For example, if the students start discussing Batman or Iron man, what classic heros from Literature might they represent?? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Cheryl - Thanks for your post to the forum. Definitely questioning usually involves one-on-one interaction between student and instructor. It is often useful though to make it more interactive by bringing other students into the discussion. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Betty - Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, encouraging our students to be self directed puts them into an active role in their learning, which is something they will be able to use throughout their lives. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Charles - Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that choice of assessment type must reflect the material being taught. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Kira- Taking the time to discuss the relevance of what you are about to teach is excellent! Students are less likely to "zone out" when they understand why the information is important. Susan
