Hi Kevin - thanks for your post to the forum and for sharing some good ideas for alternative assessments. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Susan - thanks for your post to the forum. I would not give students a comprehensive study guide because it can seem overwhelmimg. Instead, I would give a study guide for perhaps each chapter or each weeks' content and tie quizzes to that study guide. What exactly are your students complaining about? Susan
Hi Robert - Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that especially with the sort of classes that you teach - "doing" is essential! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Romeo - Thanks for your post to the forum. These learners love to practice active learning as you know. How about asking them to "teach back" or do demos themselves for the class? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Jose- Thanks for your post to the forum. Having your students particpate in a realistic scenario that is essentially what they will encounter in their career is ideal! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Charmaine- Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree, students usually enjoy sharing their personal experiences related to what they are learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Denise - Thanks for your post to the forum. I also use standardized tests for some questions, especially if they come with the textbook that I am using, but, like you, also incorporate questions from class lectures and discussions. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Larry- Thanks for your post to the forum. Your comment about giving feedback is so important. Students will not benefit from an assessment unless they understand what they did not comprehend. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Nancy - Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that Multiple Choice should probably be the preferred assessment choice for your students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Jennifer - Thanks for your post to the forum. I am a visual learner and a lousy artist, but your idea makes a lot of sense! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
