More on reflection utilized in the closing discussion. Include the students by asking: What did we learn? What was the main point?  etc.

Probing is helpful to guide students to think and discuss topics. This promotes critical thinking and not just memorization. 


 

Cognitive overload is real. We need to find ways to deliver content without overloading the instructor & the students. The tools discussed: open-ended questions, allowing time for response & incorporating think pair share activities make learning more engaging and less threatening.

Not only is it important for students to understand the difference between open & closed-ended questions, but it is also important to approach students understanding carefully. Asking "obviously you will have questions for me", who would like to go first will improve feedback.
